From what I understand about F2 hybrids, this result is not surprising. Kind of like a cross between foxtail fiber and the very smooth Vechis fiber. Here is the 5th seed that failed float test. I picked up a few seed that was on the ground while taking pics.

• @96720 Taking a look at your foxy lady in the pic.
• It PROVES that it is a true foxy lady,as foxtails are almost never variegated.
• When looking at seeds on the Kopsick specimen(s), they will have a look that falls somewhere between those off Veitchia, and those off Foxtails.
• The Caryota had to be edited after it flowered; this is the nature of a garden that some plant won’t outlive us.
• That should happen in shade and then it should be shifted up and placed gradually into more and more sun over the course of a month or two until it is hardened and can go in the ground.
• I do need to get better on checking my palm talk tho!

There are no light colored green leaves and zero variegation. That palm is 100% solid dark healthy green. David the light must be playing tricks in the photo, this palm has zero variegation. Full greens do not have any variegation. They can be solid green without any variegation.
Both are superbly grown, just needs to planted to adapt to So Cal conditions and watering. There are many other wonderful palms to grow where you are. There are more palms than Foxy Lady.
Good stuff when ever someone finds a full green or the lucky charm let me know would like a small one it’s almost like finding Waldo There is full green and mostly green. Exactly I believe even the green form has some at some point I saw a mature green form produce some variation. Did not notice the variegation earlier but as Jim pointed out, on the lower leaf there it is.

Hot and dry in summer, humid and sticky monsoon season, perfect weather Christmas time One is variegated and the other is not?? Are they famous because they are the first to produce viable seed? Being in tropical Cairns, they were probably seedlings 3 yrs ago.
Anytime now the frond on the left, which is against the lean will fall off, and you can see the angle of the newest frond which should be on that side of the palm is leaning to the right. I at least have 2 other Foxy Ladies planted about the same time. I have two good size foxy ladies that are perhaps my favorites. I did notice the dark spot on the side away from the walkway a while back, but it wasn’t really oozing anything at the time.

Can you tell me if this baby foxy is a full green ? I bought one like that on eBay recently and it will eventually be planted in a shady/partially sunny area of the garden. The collection has a few standard green Foxies, and a Variegated specimen whose crown receives full sun.
Are they the same as an F1 growth rate? I don’t know the different rates of growth for them in Florida. Will the seed look like the one you show above, or is that just the f2? I didn’t notice it until after the seedling got bigger… I have a Butia x Jubaea F2 that looks exactly like a Butia and growth speed is very similar to Butia.

A potted palm, drought tolerant or not, needs watering much more often than one in the ground that’s established. It’s a bad combination for the palm to deal with root trauma and to fight full scorching sun at the same time. I have 2 smaller foxys, and they were sensitive to repotting; it stunted their growth for several months. Also the variegation seems to be a morphological example of hybrid decline as the greens show hybrid vigor.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a small foxy lady or gear me in the right deduction thank you Myolensis triple and the (now infamous) foxy lady… Last year I added three Beccariophoenix alfredii, which I’m really liking so far due to their hardiness, and some Areca palms. I caught the “Palm tree bug” a few years ago when my wife and I wanted to add some planters to our yard, and I’ve been turned into a palm-tree nerd, as i call myself, ever since. So today is my 24 hour soak, I added some super thrive to the water at 1 tsp per gallon and am hoping that my plant drinks it up!

Foxy Lady in Trouble!

Foxtails that I’ve grown all seem to throw one spear and sit for a long time (weeks to months), at which point they resume normal growth. Apparently when the greenies are much older they can also put out the odd variegated leaf. I ask because I have 3 one leaf seedlings and they all have variegation so I’m just curious if they’ll all keep this as adults /topic/33571-producing-wodveitchia-seed/

Beautiful palm hopefully it pulls through, good luck. Initially that doesn’t look like the LPS I’ve experienced or seen; I think I would be more worried about the dark weeping spots. The core may be rotting, potentially? The line of dark spots is most concerning.

I have got palms from Flouibunda and jungle music and never had the problem I had with this palm of you are going to ship palms at least learn how to pack them!!! The only mature ( and flowering /seeding ) specimens i’m currently familiar with are those in Kopsick’s collection. You did not get a palm that was basically bare root and a palm you specifically said you did not want!!! You got an amazing holy grail palm at a discount price.

A guy in my area has them for sale pick up at 200 for a baby 1 gallon pot , he had 4 now he has 3  , i got one today  and I am looking forward to watching it grow Regardless, good luck and hopefully you’ll be able to get a hold of this great palm sooner rather than later.. Bigger ” seeder ” at Kopsick sits close to where the collection’s Veitchia grove is located. I have little doubt that had it been spring, or this time of year, germination likely would have succeeded. If you’re up to a good challenge, Kopsick Palm – Arboretum in St. Pete has a few specimens, at least one that can / has produced seed. Or is there anyone on this forum growing the legendary tree?
